Translation

Gamal Abdel Nasser used to fight in the Congo and Yemen and raise flags of nationalism and communism everywhere from the Atlantic ocean to the Persian gulf, and used to hail slogans speaking to every Egyptian citizen: “Raise your head brother!” But the poor deceived citizen could not have raised his head from the gutters, from the lashes of the intelligence agency and fear of the prisons and the sword of the overwatch and the eyes of the searchers. An atmosphere took over in which only hypocrites could grow, and the slogan became obedience and allegiance before knowledge and competence. Values deteriorated. Production fell and everywhere was pandemonium. Abdel Nasser lived for twenty years in an empty media racket and failed publicity and communist projects. The citizen woke up to a defeat that broke his back, an economic collapse, a hundred thousand dead under the sands of the Sinai, and military equipment turned to scrap. The country was lost, and the citizens were lost.
