I personally feel sadness is a negative emotion. I agree its by default in the process of birth and death and the life between them. However its similar to other negative emotions like anger and greed. Hence it should be avoided, only then we can actually be greatful to Allah(swt).
I have very very little knowledge. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Examples include the story of Yusuf’s father (chapter 12 of the Quran), the mother of prophet Musa being about to betray God out of her sadness for losing her son (chapter 28 of the Quran).
