“The worker, who wants to know his degree in the master's eye, should first observe how much he works for him.

“Many students of today busy themselves with the errors of others instead of their own.
“O soul of mine! It is not but a few days of patience; as if the extent were but a few dreams. O soul of mine! Pass on quickly through this world; and leave it, for indeed life lies ahead of it.
“The root of every act of rebellion, every appetite and every moment of heedlessness is satisfaction with one’s self. The root of every act of obedience, every restraint and every moment of wakefulness is lack of satisfaction with one’s self.
“Stay away from a companionship that does not benefit you with knowledge.
“Do not lose hope in adversity and complain that God singled you out for punishment, remitting others guilty of worse sins. Your present state could very well be His intent to elevate your spiritual station; or He could just be testing your faith. Everyday that you persevere, you grow closer to perfection. Thus your present despair may be the beginning of an infinite blessing.
“Don’t pollute your soul with sins. Be a pious person before you go preach to others.
