Quotes About Sins and Sinners

“If Shaytan defeated me yesterday, I will defeat him today with repentance and good deeds.

Sufyan ath-Thawri

“It is worse to be hopeless about the forgiveness of Allāh than to sin.

Salih al-Fawzan

“I do not believe that circumstances can truly force us to do to actions that go against our consciences.

Dr. Mustafa Mahmud

“Why does God let the tyrant perform his tyranny, the murderer to murder and the robber to rob? It is because God wants us to be free, and freedom requires the possibility of doing wrong. There is no meaning in freedom if we do not have the right to experiment, err, and do what is right, and to choose between sinning and being virtuous.

Dr. Mustafa Mahmud

“Try to make your actions harmonious with your words and your behavior the same as what you preach. If your human nature overcomes you and your desire defeats you for a moment, do not despair but ask for help and call to your Lord and say: "Your help, O Lord!" and He will say: "I am here for you, my servant" and He will take you with His hand from the darkness of your soul to the light that comes from being in His presence.

Dr. Mustafa Mahmud

“Gratitude toward a blessing means refraining from using the blessing to disobey the One that gave it to you.

Dr. Mustafa Mahmud

“Regret is the voice of the fitrah [our God-inspired inner self] in the moment of error.

Dr. Mustafa Mahmud

“If you want to understand a human being, look at his action during a moment of free choice, and you will be surprised. You may see a saint committing adultery, a prostitute praying, a doctor drinking poison. You may see your friend stabbing you and your enemy saving you, and you may see a servant mighty in status by his actions, and a master baser than the basest servant by his works.

Dr. Mustafa Mahmud

“Umar [ibn al-Khattab] was asked about those who strongly desire to commit a sin but refrain from it. Umar said: "Those are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for al-taqwaa (consciousness of Allah), for them is forgiveness and a tremendous reward." [Quran 49:13]

Yusuf al-Qaradhawi

“Remembrance of Allah with the tongue is a good thing, and what is better is the remembrance of Allah when one is about to commit a sin, and this preventing him from committing it.

Maimun bin Mihraan

“Worshipers never performed an act of worship better than staying away from that which Allah forbade them.

al-Hasan bin Ali (Grandson of the Prophet ﷺ)

“Which one is better during times of trials and the spread of sin and corruption: mixing with society and attempting to reform it, or secluding yourself from it and saving yourself?

As for the Sufis, the majority of them chose the second road. But as for the scholars who dedicated themselves to the way of God and strove in His way, they chose the way of the prophets, which is to mix with poeople and strive and patiently endure society's hurtfulness.

Ibn Umar narrates from the Prophet ﷺ: "The believer who mixes with people and endures the harm that comes from them is better than the Muslim who does not mix with people and does not endure their harm." [Bukhari, Ahmad and others]

Yusuf al-Qaradhawi

“It was said to [The Prophet’s grandson] Al-Hassan: ”Is not the servant [of God] ashamed of sinning and then repenting, and then sinning again and then again repenting?”

He [Al-Hassan] said: “Satan wants exactly that. Never stop making repentance.”

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali

“If you find sweetness in haram [forbidden things], Allah will take the sweetness away from halal.

Shaykh Hasan Ali

“Rather than itching to expose the private sins and weaknesses of others, a true believer helps them through prayer and guidance.

Mufti Ismail Menk

“More than one person has said to me: "When I repent to Him; [turn to (Him) in obedience, avoiding disobedience, depending on him and seeking refuge in Him] and performing righteous actions; my sustenance is straitened and difficulty comes upon my livelihood. However, when I return to disobeying Him and give my soul its desires, then sustenance, relief and other than it comes to me.’’ So I said to some of them: "This is a test from Him to see whether you are truthful or untruthful in your seeking refuge with Him, responding and submitting to Him in obedience and exercising patience upon (what He has decreed of afflictions for you with absolute justice and wisdom) so that there are (good) end results for you; or whether you are untruthful so that you return to what you were upon (of evil)."

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah

“Get yourself out of this limited world of diseases to the wide world of the hereafter, which has what the eyes have never seen. Nothing is impossible there, and love is not lost.

O you who sold yourself for the sake of something that will cause you suffering and pain, and which will also lose its beauty, you sold the most precious item for the cheapest price, as if you neither knew the value of the goods nor the meanness of the price. Wait until you come on the Day of mutual loss and gain and you will discover the injustice of this contract.

"There is no God but Allah" is something that Allah is buying. Its price is Paradise, and the Messenger is its agent, and you will be pleased to part with a small part of this worldly life to obtain it. The part you lose is a small part of something that as a whole is not worth a mosquito’s wing.

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah

“Don’t ever let any mistake or sinful habit convince you that your prayers aren’t worth it.

Abdel Rahman Murphy
