Quotes About Tawakkul (Complete Reliance Upon Allah)
“Allah manages everything in the heavens and earth—the sun, the moon, the stars—with perfection, and yet we don’t trust Him to manage our lives!
“Don’t make an excuse for your laziness by calling it tawakkul (trust in God).
“If Allah has written for you happiness, no one can steal that from you, and if He has written for your heart to break, then no-one can mend it but He, so always put your trust in Allah.
“I was reading the story of Musa (AS) in surat Taha. There is such a powerful lesson in this story. Musa (AS) was depending on the means (leaning on his staff), so Allah told him to throw it. It became a snake. Then he took it back and it became a staff again. When you depend on the creation instead of Allah, the creation can become a snake that can bite you. But when your dependence is on Allah, that same creation (snake), can become a staff that helps you.
Allahu akbar.
“In trusting Allah, remember that what’s best for you might be what’s most painful.
“Wash your heart every morning with salat, then warm it up with dhikr. Approach life with hope and faith. Every day do your best, Allah will do the rest.
“Put your trust in Allah and not in anyone other than Him, because it is known that He alone is the Helper.
“To completely trust in God is to be like a child who knows deeply that even if he does not call for the mother, the mother is totally aware of his condition and is looking after him.
“[Regarding hardship and calamities] The lowest level of good manners toward God is for the human to accuse his own judgment regarding what is good for him instead of accusing God's decrees.
But true good manners is for one to not have any judgment of their own at all, for there to be only God's decrees, and to accept God's decrees with obedience and submission, in a state of contentment, trust, and tranquility.
“Tawwakul is not an act of the limbs—it is an act of the heart. And so while the limbs are striving hard, the heart is completely reliant on Allah. This means whatever the outcome of the limbs’ striving, the heart will be completely satisfied, knowing that it is the flawless decision of Allah.
But in order to reach this level, one must hold on to hope, strive with the limbs, and let go with the heart.
“If one truly understands the Reality and the power of Allah, one will realize that it is in fact an infirmity of the human mind to not rely on Allah.
“There can be no faith without tawakkul; and if there is true faith, tawakkul must always follow.
“Tawakkul is standing in front of the Red Sea—as Prophet Musa did—with an army behind you, and not even flinching, knowing that Allah will get you through.
“Tawakkul is having full faith that Allah will take care of you—even when things look impossible.
“Tawakkul is having complete trust that Allah’s plan is the best plan.
“To call on God is not to console oneself—it is to rediscover the condition God originally wanted for us—the spark of humility, the awareness of fragility.
“Relying on God (tawakul) is like bungee jumping. You jump because you know you're safe, as long as you're attached to the ONE true, solid rope.
