IslamQA: Does the Quran say sperm comes from the belly?

“إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ .يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ. خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ. فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ” “Sura al Tariq. 86 : 5-8” So I have often heard this verse being used as evidence for Quran being scientifically inaccurate because it seems to imply semen comes from between the backbone and the ribs which we know isn’t true. I want to know if this is truly what the verse means and if not I would love to know what it actually says.

That verse can actually be considered one of the proofs of the truth of the Quran, because semen does not come from the testicles; it comes from the seminal vesicles that happen to be in the belly, and the verse is speaking of semen, not sperm. Sperm, of course, comes from the testicles. But the sperms have to merge with other materials in the seminal vesicles, and the result is sperm. So when a man ejaculates, the seminal fluid comes from the belly as the verse suggests.

And God knows best.

Asalamu alaykum sister, i was searching for the same subject and i saw you question here without response, so i tried to find it and cut it for you..

This one is from “https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-scientific-explanation-behind-the-verses-86-6-and-86-7-in-the-Quran” if you want to read more..

________

86:6–7: “He is created from drop emitted-, Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs.”

This verse is talking about ejaculation, not sperm production. Note that, these 2 are 2 different biological processes controlled differently. For ejaculation, nerve stimulation and muscle contraction both are needed. The nerve impulse is carried out from brain to the male reproductive organ. These nerves include both the spinal nerve (located inside our backbone) and the branch of spinal nerves that are encompassing our ribs (intercostal nerves) which goes up to the reproductive system. These nerves are responsible for passing sensory information as well as muscle contraction that results in ejaculation.

The spinal nerve is mostly important for males. That is why backbone injury causes erectile dysfunction. In 90% of cases, males fail to ejaculate properly after serious spine injury. Thus the spinal nerve (backbone) is responsible for a male’s fluid release. (1)
Intercostal nerve is important for both males and females. That is why stimulating the chest area plays a role during intimacy. Especially this nerve is very important for female arousal. A total of 4 nerves are required, including the intercostal nerve (2). During arousal, the vaginal walls release a clear FLUID that lubricates and neutralizes vaginal acidity and helps sperm survive and thus contributes in fertilization. We all know that in most cases, this is the only fluid secreted by the female reproductive organ (3).
According to 1 practice (called “nipplegasm”), orgasm can be achieved in a female by bypassing any intercourse. This practice involve stroking the rib cage (beside other chest area activity (4)).
Many scholars have gave the opinion that the word “In between” actually means the contribution of both genders, according to Arabic. Thus fluid from both gender released by the stimulation via backbone and rib play role in fertilization. (And surely God knows the best).

Hope that answers your questions sister

What kind of mental gymnastics do you have to do to claim that the verse is still accurate? Like wow. No. It is stated quite clearly in Koran that Muslims believed sperm came from the backbone and ribs. Stop brainwashing yourselves. And no, seminal fluid derives from the seminal glands which are in the pelvic region. Not near the ribs. This is asinine interpretation of an obviously ridiculous lack of biological understanding. Which, of course, muslims had no idea of in the 7th century, which is why they were DEAD WRONG! Only a brainwashed muslim would continue to believe that “backbone and ribs” meant testicles. And no, sperm, OR EVEN SEMINAL FLUIDS DO NOT DERIVE FROM THE BELLY!! Whatever that even means. What an ignorant understanding of biology. How about this, get educated, stop living in the stone age. Sincerely, the rest of the frickin’ world.
